Development partners to fund direct line from Cahora Bassa to Maputo |

Mozambique's cooperation partners have expressed willingness to grant the necessary funds to build a new power transmission line from the Cahora Bassa dam, in the central province of Tete, to Maputo. The project, described as the backbone for the expansion of the Mozambican electricity grid, is budgeted at 2.5 billion US dollars.

Sahara assembles computer in Maputo |

In partnership with the South African company Sahara, the Mozambicam government is planning to install a computer assembling company before the end of this month. The factory will assemble portable and desk top computers to be sold on the domestic market at a price equivalent to about a third of the international price.

MOZAL fined for alleged illegal redundancies |

Labour Ministry has fined the country's largest and most modern industry, the MOZAL aluminium smelter on the outskirts of Maputo, for illegal redundancies. MOZAL made 80 workers redundant in February but, according to a press release from the Ministry, it did not follow the procedures laid down in the Mozambican labour law.

ADB disburses funds for a key road in northern Mozambique |

The African Development Bank (ADB) has disbursed a total of 44.2 million US dollars that it pledged for the rehabilitate and tar the road from the town of Montepuez, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, to Lichinga, capital of the neighbouring province of Niassa.
