Finance Minister Manuel Chang says that the international financial crisis could affect the level of tax collection in Mozambique and, according to the minister this would happen in the event of a decline in the flow of foreign investment or if donors felt obliged to reduce their aid.

The computerization of tax payments will begin in the second half of this year, according to Hirminio Sueia, the director of the Studies, Strategic Planning and International Cooperation Office in the Mozambican Tax Authority (AT). Sueia told AIM that the Mozambican government launched an international tender in mid-2008, to select the company that will provide the software for the “e-taxation” system, and will train staff to operate it.

The Beira Railway Company (CCFB) led by the Indian consortium RICON says the Sena railway line they are rehabilitating in partnership with the Mozambique Ports and Railway Company (CFM) will be ready by the end of the year.

China grants addional funds for national stadium ahead of the 2010 Soccer World Cup PDF Print E-mail

The Chinese government has pledged a further 2.5 million US dollars to finance work to remove soil from the
site where the new Mozambican national stadium is being built. The project will be completed before the football World Cup to be held in South Africa, in 2010.
